For do-it-yourselfers, taking on home projects can be both fun and rewarding. There are countless types of paints to choose from, and sometimes spray paint is the best choice. For many DIYers, Krylon has been the spray paint brand they select.

“Krylon has been a leader in spray paint innovation for more than 75 years, with a long history rooted in creativity and hands-on making,” says Kristen Ashbrook, senior product manager, Krylon. “Over the decades, the brand has become synonymous with quality and creativity, offering products designed to help DIYers and crafters restore, create and protect.”

In recent years, Krylon, a subsidiary of Sherwin-Williams, has been developing new and improved formulas, and has changed its look over time. Its most iconic look was its 5-Ball design, and at a time when many homeowners are looking for a retro look for their homes, Krylon recognized the time is right to bring back that Krylon Classic look.

“Krylon Classic represents an important part of our history,” Ashbrook says. “Its recognizable 5-Ball design became synonymous with generations of DIY creativity and remains a nostalgic piece of spray paint history. Krylon Classic has a strong connection to the brand’s legacy and to generations of DIY creativity, so there was an opportunity to reintroduce something consumers recognize while making it relevant for today’s projects.”

Ashbrook notes that the timing also felt right, with lacquer finishes, high-gloss aesthetics and retro-inspired design re-emerging across home décor.

“Bringing Classic back allows Krylon to tap into that nostalgia while delivering the fast dry times and recoat flexibility DIYers value today,” adds Ashbrook. “Krylon offers a broad range of products, from general-purpose spray paints to specialty finishes, all designed to help consumers restore, create and protect. Classic adds a lacquer-based option to that portfolio, combining Krylon’s heritage with a formula built around convenience, speed, simplicity and versatility for today’s DIY and craft projects.”

Ashbrook notes that Krylon Classic is designed to help DIYers keep projects moving with fewer interruptions.

“It dries to the touch in 15 minutes or less and features a recoat-anytime formula, eliminating traditional recoat windows between coats,” she says. “It also provides a durable finish across a variety of surfaces, including wood, metal, wicker, glass and most plastics, and features a big-button fan spray for smooth, even application and improved control. Together, those benefits help reduce delays and rework while making projects easier to complete efficiently.”

In addition, Krylon Classic is bringing back several heritage-inspired shades that reflect the bold personality of the original line, including Gloss Sunset Orange, Gloss Icy Grape and Metallic Bright Gold. The full collection includes 16 colors across gloss, satin and metallic finishes.

“The heritage-inspired colors were intentionally selected to bring back some of the personality that made the original line memorable, while the broader 16-color assortment gives DIYers options across gloss, satin and metallic finishes,” Ashbrook adds.

“What makes Krylon Classic special is that it celebrates an important part of Krylon’s history while giving today’s DIYers a product designed to keep projects moving,” Ashbrook concludes. “From the iconic 5-Ball design and heritage-inspired colors to the fast-drying, recoat-anytime formula, Classic brings together the personality people remember with the performance and ease of use they expect today.”
